LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR - PRIVATE GUITAR LESSONS
At Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory I was very
fortunate to have received guitar lessons and music instruction from some
of the best musicians and teachers in the world. Several of these
individuals were extremely generous in sharing the wealth of their
knowledge and experience with aspiring young musicians.
For me, giving guitar lessons is much more than just a livelihood. Giving
guitar lessons is an opportunity to give something back. Sharing my own
knowledge and experience with guitar students, of any age or ability level,
who would like to learn to play the guitar either as a hobby or as a
profession, gives me great joy.
There should be no mystery in taking guitar lessons, no “secrets of the
masters” in learning to play the guitar. In fact, most of these so called
"secrets" are nothing more than a particular guitarist's "approach" to
learning and/or practicing. Certainly, there are many approaches one can
take in learning to play guitar. When someone comes to me for guitar
lessons the first step is to select a method book (i.e. approach to learning)
based upon the needs and abilities of the individual student. Beyond this
there is no rigid curriculum that applies for all guitar lessons. If a student
encounters a problem with any material it is my responsibility to break it
down to small “digestible” amounts until the student achieves success.
Additional music, exercises and study materials are chosen as needed in
order that the guitar lessons may help students to achieve their goals.
Learning to play the guitar, or any instrument, should never be a question
of overcoming huge obstacles. Rather, mastery results from patient,
methodical instruction, appropriate practice and the gradual internalization
of many small details. Most people who take guitar lessons will never
aspire to become professional musicians. I am convinced, however, that
anyone who is willing to put in the effort can learn to play the guitar as a
fun, relaxing and creative pastime.
My education and experience qualify me to give classical guitar lessons,
jazz guitar lessons and popular style guitar lessons. Anyone from
beginners to very advanced players is welcome. My teaching studio is
located at Haverhill Music Centre in Haverhill, MA. Private guitar lessons
are one half hour and are scheduled weekly. A free consultation can be
arranged to see if guitar lessons may be right for you or your child.
